To be fair, those docked desktop modes never work perfect with those said devices. It'd be stupidly lucrative it'd allow them to functionally concentrate on a single OS, have a single app store, and they could still charge $799 for a Macbook 'Air' and for the US which has 50% iPhone Marketshare I can near guarantee every campus in America will be filled with people who have phones connected to these shells.Ĭan you imagine the profit margin? Metal case with 50Wh battery, 1600p display, keyboard, trackpad, and speakers wouldn't even cost $400. Why'd it have to be Airplay? USBC4 (or whatever the flying fuck they are calling it now USBCD?) could do everything simply plug your phone into you Macbook 'Air' and your phone switches to a desktop mode, the phone charges and you view your Macbook in a DeskOS type deal which while not as elegant as the phone sliding into your macbook and serving as a trackpad could certainly work. Provided the phone got smaller or the case was built with a larger phone in mind a insert could be used much like the old iPod days which allowed iPods of different size to work on the same machine.
